You know, as a middle-aged American, I grew up with absolutely zero exposure to computers. Sure, we had typing class, and I could rock a keyboard, but computers? Not a chance. I still remember being in awe of the IBM Selectric typewriter—it could speed-type and self-correct. Amazing, right? Well, fast forward to college, when I saw my first Texas Instruments calculator. It was the size of a shoebox, but boy, could it calculate! Now, calculators fit in our pockets—or better yet, live on our phones!
How are you adapting to rapidly changing technology? However you adapt, it is what makes you... you! As time marched on, technology kept evolving, and keeping up became its own challenge. I do my best, but sometimes I have to call my daughter for tech help. The eye rolls and "Oh Dad, you should know this by now" never fail to follow. Once, I asked a particularly ridiculous question, and she hit me with, "Dad, you've got I.D. ten T disease." Took me a minute to realize she was calling me an ID10T (idiot). We had a good laugh, and she helped me solve my tech dilemma.
The point is, keeping up with this ever-changing world of gadgets—smart TVs, phones, and computers—can be a real brain workout. Even here at the office we have been adding new technology to stay ahead of changing times. I am so impressed by all of our clients that have embraced these changes, especially those with our Annual Request for Information process! And for those of you, like me, that suffer from ID10T...just give us a call. We are always here to help!

David's tech struggles really hit home for so many of our clients! Here's the good news: you don't need to master every new gadget to stay connected with your retirement planning. Most people are surprised when they learn that the Social Security Administration now handles nearly 70% of their benefit applications online through their my Social Security portal, and Medicare.gov has become the go-to resource for comparing Medicare Advantage plans during Open Enrollment (October 15 through December 7 each year).
Think of it this way—you can choose your comfort level. Some folks love using apps to track their IRA withdrawals or 401k balances, while others prefer a simple phone call to their advisor. The important thing is staying informed about your benefits, whether that's through technology or good old-fashioned conversation. A little flexibility with new tools can make managing your retirement accounts much easier, but there's always a human ready to help when you need it.
