The scariest Medicare letters of the year land October 2nd. That same morning, we'll be at the library.

A wave of Medicare Advantage non-renewal letters is about to land, and the headlines will scare people before the facts can catch up. Here's the calm version, and why we picked October 2nd to be in the room.

The scariest Medicare letters of the year land October 2nd. That same morning, we'll be at the library.

Sometime in the first days of October, a few hundred thousand people are going to open a letter that ruins their week.

It comes from the insurance company. It says the Medicare Advantage plan they have counted on is not being renewed for 2027. And because of how these notices are written and the week they arrive, a lot of good people are going to read one and assume the worst. That they have lost their coverage. That they did something wrong. That they have to scramble right now.

Here is what almost none of those letters will say in plain language. This was expected. There is a process. And there is real time to make a calm, good decision.

Humana confirmed this summer that it is stepping out of some of its least profitable Medicare Advantage markets for 2027. The reporting puts it near 600,000 members nationwide, which sounds enormous until you read the rest of it. That is roughly 8 percent of the company's Medicare Advantage business. The plans being dropped are the lowest rated ones, those sitting at three and a half stars or below. Humana itself says it expects to move about 40 percent of the affected members into its other plans automatically. And the federal deadline to choose something else is not tomorrow. It is December 7.

None of that fits in a headline. "Humana Cuts Medicare Plans, 600,000 Members Affected" fits in a headline. So that is the version most people are going to see, and it is going to scare them.

The news read you the headline. Somebody should read you the release.

That is why we are going back to the library.

On Friday, October 2, American Retirement Advisors is holding two no-cost Medicare workshops at two Valley libraries. One at the Foothills Library in Glendale at 10:30 in the morning, and one at the Mustang Library in Scottsdale at 2:30 in the afternoon. Same content both times. Doors open thirty minutes early. There is no cost to attend.

We chose that date on purpose. The federally required non-renewal letters are dated October 2. We wanted to be in the room the same day the mail lands.

Now the honest part, because it is the whole point. We are not coming to the library to sell you a plan. By design, we will not discuss or recommend a single specific plan, and there will be no applications to sign. This is an educational hour. What we are going to do is teach you how to read your own situation, so the next scary headline lands on someone who already knows the facts.

We will walk through how Medicare actually works, in plain English. How Supplement and Advantage differ and where Part D fits. How to use the new Medicare.gov, what it shows you and what it quietly leaves out. How the Annual Enrollment Period works and what every key date means. And then we open the floor, because the best question in the room is usually the one somebody was afraid to ask.

Our advisors have already begun reviewing what the 2027 landscape looks like for the families we serve, and so far the picture is far calmer than the headlines suggest. Most people are not losing anything. But nobody, not us and not anyone else, can tell you about your specific plan with certainty until the official 2027 information is released on October 1. That is exactly why a workshop on the 2nd is the right time. We will finally have the facts, and we can hand them to you straight.

If you are on Medicare, about to be, or you are the adult child trying to help a parent make sense of the mail, come sit with us.

Register at 123easymedicare.com/oct-workshop or call (877) 220-1089. Seating is limited to 140 per session.
